HCHAI went to ECCB 2026!
Janna, Miranda, and Charlotte went to ECCB 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland to learn about the latest research in bioinformatics and computational biology. Miranda and Charlotte also presented their research in form of posters, which led to fruitful discussion with other researchers. Miranda presented Give your Metabolites Significance. Charlotte presented Comparative methods for RNA Secondary Structure Prediction in RNA Viruses.

Miranda joined the volunteering team to help ensuring a smooth conference.
We attended many inspiring talks and saw a lot of great posters. The speech by WHO Scientist Jeremy Farrar was particularly inspiring, reminding us that in today’s challenges we shall not lose hope and be active in reshaping the world to make it fair and safe for everyone. Another inspiring session was the focus session on Biodiversity and Climate, where we reflected on how we as scientists can help in safeguarding not only biodiversity but a livable climate for everyone.
Finally, we attended a tutorial where we learnt about Knowledge Graphs and Multi-omics integration using LLMs, which surely will be useful in our work going forward.
Conferences are always an excellent way of exchanging ideas and meeting interesting people, so we hope we can apply as much as possible, go foward with newly forged collaborations, and are looking forward to the next ISMB/ECCB in Copenhagen 2027.
