Combatting the harmful effects of AI on body image – UnRealBody Video Release

As generative AI becomes more pervasive, we’re seeing an increase in digitally altered and completely artificial images shared online that set impossible beauty standards. For young people growing up in this digital landscape, the relentless exposure to impossibly ‘perfect’ images can impact self-esteem, even if they know that the images are altered or generated.

This video (co-developed with young people) aims to reduce the impact by pre-bunking: raising generative AI literacy to enable young people to maintain healthy relationships with their bodies in an age of synthetic imagery. When we better understand how these tools work, we’re better equipped to question what we see and deliberately celebrate authentic human diversity.

Let’s work together for digital literacy, critical thinking, and protecting mental health in our increasingly AI-mediated world.
